House of Rest was founded in May 2011, but its true beginning started years earlier in the heart of Pastor David while he was serving an eight-year sentence in federal prison. Though he was raised in a Christian home, he spent many years running from God and following his own path. That path eventually led to a prison sentence, and it was there—in solitary confinement—that David could no longer outrun God’s call on his life.

After years of reckless living and many arrests, David surrendered his life to Christ on February 25, 2004. Later, he was transferred from Terminal Island Federal Correctional Institution to a facility closer to home in Atwater, CA. During this time, he enrolled in CLU and earned a degree in Biblical Studies. It was in this season that the Lord gave him a dream and the name House of Rest—and the vision for the ministry was born.

After serving six of his eight-year sentence, David was released in 2010. He quickly began planning to fulfill the vision God had placed in his heart. Soon after, he was credentialed with Grace International, and House of Rest began as a small congregation made up of his parents and a few close friends.

In 2017, Pastor David married Sharon Mendoza. Together, Pastor David and Pastor Sharon have faithfully pastored House of Rest. Over time, the pastoral team has grown, and they are now joined in leadership by Pastors Al and Lydia Bejarano, Angel and Diana Rocha, and Armando and Lorena Iniguez.

Under this leadership team, House of Rest has become a training ground where people discover and walk in their identity in Christ. This has led to testimonies of miracles, physical healing, salvation, and freedom from demonic oppression.

Our sermons are rooted in the truth of the New Man and New Covenant realities found in the inspired Word of God. At House of Rest, our desire is that every person would find rest in Christ, be transformed by His grace, and be equipped to live out their God-given purpose.
